Cozy bedding, calm lighting, a peaceful getaway – bedrooms are more than a sleeping area, bedrooms are where we recharge and revitalize. When it comes time to refresh your space, you’ll want to think about how each element works to provide a cohesive retreat. One of the most effective ways to update your bedroom, is to think like a hotelier by anticipating your needs and to build the room around them.
Whether your design style is beach themed, inspired by the outdoors, modern and colorful or classically chic we have the must-have pieces to help you slumber in paradise in our coastal bedroom furniture collection.
Beach Themed Bedroom Must-Haves
Your bed will take center stage in your coastal bedroom. Regardless of whether you’re starting with a blank canvas or it’s time for an upgrade, you’ll want to take a few things into consideration. Your bedroom dimensions are the starting place. Consider how much ‘walking around’ space is needed for comfort and how many people will be enjoying the space–think weekends with the kids, pets and workspace or reading nook. Next, you’ll want to explore the overall design of the space and what look and feel you are trying to achieve.
High quality bedding makes all the difference in your comfort level and quality of sleep. Cotton is always a good choice because it is breathable and can come in casual or luxurious styles. The sheets with the highest thread counts aren’t always the best choice as we have been lead to believe. Quality sheets will feel better after every subsequent wash and will last for years and never pill. Look at the seams and manufacturing. If there are threads hanging off or the stitching is not uniform, this is a giveaway that these sheets are not the best. And of course style, color and texture will finish off the look.
Choosing the perfect beach themed nightstand can be a daunting task. With so many variations in size, shape and color it can be a challenge to pick the right one for your space. There are some general rules of thumb to follow. Watch for height. One that’s the same height as your mattress or a few inches taller is comfortable for turning on the lamp or reaching for a glass of water. Depending your style you may not want to match your nightstands. In fact, mixing styles can add personality. Consider your needs – will you be in need of drawer or extra tabletop space? If so, you may consider the depth as well like our Faux Bamboo Nightstand.
Relaxation is your goal, so when you add lighting make dimmable task lights a priority. Overhead lights, while handy for cleaning or searching for your favorite sandals, do not set the stage for a tranquil retreat. When choosing your beach themed lights, you’ll want to consider the size, both the circumference and the height. Steer away from shades that are too opaque, otherwise your bedroom may be too dark. Whether or not you have matching lamps is a personal preference, though the space will look is more pulled-together if they do. At the very least, the tops of the lamps should be the same height.
Here is where your personality can really shine. Wall art allows you to pull together the style of your room. Size matters when choosing your art. Choose art that will fill two-thirds to three-quarters of the wall. If you use one large piece consider using an overhead art spotlight to highlight your focal point. You’ll also want to be sure to hang your art at eye level. For a cohesive look, display art with a similar color pattern or by the same artist. No matter what, display art that you love.
