Have you ever been in a design rut? You think you have a good idea and then go shopping and realize you don’t like anything you had originally picked out?
Or maybe you’re one of those people that plays things safe when you are decorating…like taking the leap and painting your white walls more of an almond color.
There are a number of tricks of the trade, so to speak, that designers share to help people do a bit of redecorating without having to go all out purchasing new items. The one tip we have found that works amazingly well is simply adding an unexpected splash of color to the room.
We chose orange because it’s unique and usually not the first choice when it comes to designing. It is also one of the best colors to use when you want to make a bold statement.
Take our first item for example. This Fresh American Trimaran Stripe throw pillow is part of our very own Cottage & Bungalow collection and can be easily incorporated into any room to add a pop of color.
If you have a room that seems dull or boring, add a few of these pillows anywhere you want to draw attention. When someone walks into your newly decorated room, their eyes will immediately be drawn to these gorgeous pillows.
The dining room can be one of the more challenging places to add color simply because most dining room tables come in various shades of brown. Designers rely heavily on accent pieces, flowers, tablescapes, and window treatments to bring in color and add depth.
We love the way these orange chairs from nehomemag.com bring this dining room to life. They are comfortable looking and add just the right amount of vibrancy to the room.
Sometimes it’s nice to have a room that is simply decorated yet still looks amazing. That’s what we thought when we found this image on bhg.com. What appeals to us is that, while the base color in the bathroom is white, the whimsical, nautical, sea life wall paper in orange is all that is needed to take this room to the next level.
The 6″ caged light fixture and porthole mirror are in keeping with the nautical theme as well. We love everything about this design, especially the wallpaper.
One of the best ideas for bringing color and depth to a bedroom is to do so through the bed coverings you choose. The bed is the focal point of the bedroom and usually the biggest piece of furniture, so it would be natural to use your base color in the bed coverings.
If you want to make a bold statement, orange is a great place to start. We found this adorable Candlewick Paprika Throw in our Cottage & Bungalow collection that would be the perfect addition to any bedroom, especially in a beach house cottage. Again, choose some amazing throw pillows to add that comfy, cozy feel.
