We frequently work with clients who are trying to decide on the perfect décor for their beach home. They often times ask the same questions: What color scheme is best? Should we choose a theme? How do we incorporate our children’s interests into our beach home? While there is never one answer that is best for everyone, we do find that there is one area our clients can focus on that will make the most difference when it comes to décor: color.
So many beach home owners choose a basic white as their foundation for their decorating in order to keep things simple and clean-looking. This strategy is excellent for a number of reasons. First, you can add just about any accent piece and it immediately works. Secondly, it’s a great base color to build from.
Today we’re going to introduce you to one of our favorite beach home accent colors; turquoise. Turquoise is regularly associated with nautical decorating themes making it easy to find accent items for your beach home. Take a look at what we found.
Under The Sea
Our first find comes to us from houseofturquoise.com. We love how the simple step of painting the wall turquoise then adding white seaweed in a wavy pattern makes this room feel like it’s under the sea. This would be a simple afternoon DIY that the kids could even help with. Notice how, because white was the base color, you could add small turquoise accent pieces and it doesn’t overwhelm the room. This is a perfect balance of color.
You’ve Been Framed
These gems can be found in our very own Cottage & Bungalow collection and add not only color but texture and depth to your décor. Choose from our starfish or seahorse design or better yet, purchase both and create a series of nautical photos. The turquoise accent in these frames is subtle but makes the frames pop at the same time. The balance of turquoise with the gray, tan, and white in the frame is perfect.
Shut Out the World
When you’re at your beach house, sometimes you just want to shut out the world and relax, right? We have always enjoyed the look and feel that shutters add to a beach home. Now you can add a simple coat of turquoise paint and create an entirely new look. We found this image on dyingofcute.tumblr.com and can picture having a family movie night in this room; snuggling on the couch eating popcorn and laughing while the sound of the waves crashing in the background offers a subtle reminder that we have all the time in the world to enjoy that one perfect moment.
Light Up Your World
If you’re looking for an elegant way to work some turquoise into your current décor, may we suggest this exquisite Sully Lamp from Cottage & Bungalow? This lamp not only screams “beach house”, it’s unique shape and marbled coloring make it the perfect accent piece for your beach home. What’s more, each lamp is specially made by our very own artisans, which means every lamp is completely authentic and cannot ever be exactly reproduced. What an incredible way to bring a little light and color to your beach home.
Our final turquoise find comes to you from Better Homes and Gardens. This incredible fireplace is accented in various shades of turquoise glass with an adorable sea turtle inlaid on the center piece. The white background in the center piece looks like stone and is the perfect texture to set off the turquoise glass sea turtle. Not only is this an amazing way to incorporate color into your beach home, it is also going to be an incredible talking point when friends and family stop by.
