Texture Everywhere

Adding textural elements may not be a new trend, but it’s certainly not going anywhere! “Texture” is defined as, “the sensations caused by the external surface of objects received through the sense of touch.” It’s a multi-sensorial experience, a treat to see and feel. We love bringing texture to every element of a room, from walls to textiles, right now we are especially in love with textural accent pieces.

There are many benefits to adding texture to a space. It gives the room balance, adds visual weight, and makes a room pop, to name a few. It’s a sure way to elevate a look, and fall is the perfect time to do so. Consider adding cozy textiles such as fluffy pillows and soft rugs, you could even swap out a few table lamps and update wall coverings.

Adding texture is an easy way to freshen up your space for the new season.

Here are a few ideas:

Elegant Pumpkins

We can’t talk about fall decor without pumpkins, can we? Pumpkin decor is quintessential “fall” but it doesn’t have to be garish. No orange plastic pieces here! You can have your pumpkin and decorate too with an elegant pumpkin look. We’re inspired by these designs, but you can do anything you’d like to turn these seasonal fruits into festive accessories around your beach home.

Unexpected Navy

House & Home

We will not argue that Navy is timeless so some would say that it’s always trending. Navy and white are classic in nautical decor and the color combination has been used in a variety of ways dating back hundreds of years. However, there are always new ways to incorporate a classic look and that merits a mention for this popular hue in home decor.

While many dark colors can feel gloomy, Navy Blue is reminiscent of the ocean and has an immediate calming quality. Before the holidays can be an ideal time to incorporate navy into some of your more permanent pieces, such as a tile backsplash or as the color of your kitchen island.

Boco Do Lobo suggests in this Trends Forecast for Fall/Winter 2018: “Navy Blue is one of the easiest colors to add into a home and one that works in almost every style of decor. While it works beautifully in a classic decor, it can also spice up a modern home thanks to its elegant and timeless feel. Plus, it can be used both as a neutral or as an accent so your options are unlimited when playing with this color. Extra points for versatility. Just let your creativity flow.”

Nesting Side Tables

One trend that’s really standing out right now is the use of nesting tables and we love it! Whether used for coffee tables, nightstands, or next to a sofa, there are so many instances where nesting tables can really elevate a space. Because of their unique groupings, they are so versatile. You can break them up for more surface area, or nest them close together for more floor space. With so many style options, everyone can find a way to incorporate them into their fall decor.

Brass Chandeliers

Earlier this year we predicted brass accents would be on-trend, and we were not wrong! Brass and warm metals, in general, are popping up everywhere as a new classic design choice. Paired with clean lines and organic materials and brass chandeliers bring a touch of glamour and mystique.

We’re pretty excited about these fall decor trends for this year. Are you?

We also had the chance to chat with a few designers about what fall decor trends they were looking forward to, and why. Here is what they had to say.

Fall Decor Trends Q&A

What fall decor trends are you most excited about and why?

Diane Henkler – In My Own Style

“Fall is my favorite season and I always get excited when the air starts to turn. The season has me yearning to decorate with orange, rust, brown and the colors of the falling leaves no matter what the current trends.

Adding texture and layers makes the spaces feel more cozy. I add texture by placing comfy throws to the seating as well as adding a few big floor baskets to hold extra pillows and throws.

The decorative accessories I use year after year are classic.  Pumpkins, mums and natural elements that I find in my garden and yard.”

Ivonne Ronderos – DKOR Interiors

“I can’t wait to see how we continue to mix metals, textures, and styles that create interiors that have a great story. We are also seeing a lot of sage and blush as neutrals that are a fresh take on the taupe we’ve been seeing for years.”

Taryn Whiteaker – Taryn Whiteaker Designs

“To me, fall decor is all about adding new textures into your home and a little bit more nature. Whether it’s a cozy chunky loop throw blanket to cuddle up with next to the fire, a bucket of birchwood or bowl of pumpkins as a centerpiece. There are so many easy ways to add touches of fall into your home. Every year I change up my seasonal decor and this year I will be filling my own home with even more soft cream tones, a light blue/gray and pops of copper and natural wood. I’m excited to bring a softer yet luxe look for this fall!”
